Summer Institute 2018

NEW IN 2018!

In 2018, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche will give teachings at Nitartha Summer Institute that are open to all participants. Furthermore, a new cycle of Mahamudra teachings based on the Ocean of Definitive Meaning and led by Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen will be open to anyone who is interested.

What Is Nitartha Institute? Why Is It Special?

Combining an in-depth course of study with training in meditation and analysis, Nitartha Institute takes exploring your own mind and awakening your own heart to a new level!

Modeled after Nalanda University, an ancient Buddhist university in India, Nitartha Institute is a unique non-sectarian academic institution with the heart of practice: it combines training in the views of Buddhism as a science of mind with meditative experiences. The Institute is open to all – anyone interested in enriching their understanding and practice is welcome to attend!

Immersed in a retreat environment, guided by an authentic master of the tradition and senior teachers and scholars, Nitartha Summer Institute is an ongoing transmission of the heart of the Buddha’s teachings. This core training in understanding the mind is rounded out by engagement in additional sciences and arts, such as language, painting, and debate.

Shedra and Gomdra

The two primary tracks for Nitartha students are complementary and feed back into each other. The Shedra track emphasizes learning the crucial distinctions about mind and processes of consciousness – like a decoder key to the pith instructions for training on the path.

The Gomdra track emphasizes meditative practice as the method to discover, experience, and integrate new possibilities for being, sanity, and wisdom. As learning and insight develop in the Shedra, this enhances meditative experience. As meditative experience deepens, more advanced studies become relevant and meaningful.

In 2018, for the first time ever, students in the Shedra track can attend Gomdra teachings and students in the Gomdra track can attend Shedra classes, as their schedule permits.

Exceptional Teachers in a Beautiful Place

Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche

We’re cultivating our intelligence as opposed to expanding or upgrading its contents. It’s like brightening a room by putting a higher-watt lightbulb in a lamp. Suddenly we can see everything in the room much more clearly.

—Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche
