Thangka Painting
with R.D. Salga

R.D. Salga is a renowned master of the Karma Gadri tradition of thangka painting. Through the years, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche has asked Salga-la to paint all of the major lineage thangkas used to support meditation and study at Nalandabodhi, including Padmasambhava, Tara, Vajrasattva, Milarepa, and the “Golden Rosary” of Kagyu lineage masters.

Thangka painting with Nitartha’s guest R.D. Salga is a very special track will be offered this year at the Summer Institute, during session 1 (July 10-18) and session 2 (July 19-28)!

This track will include 3 studio classes taught by R.D. Salga, in addition to open studio time. Students will also attend Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche’s classes and will have the option of attending Mahamudra sessions.

Prerequisites for Rinpoche’s tantra course and the Mahamudra Vipahsyana-I or Vipashyana-II courses: These courses have the same prerequisites as the  Meditation and Study in Union track. Registration is open from March 1 to June 10, 2020. Early birds who register by May 10th save $50/session on tuition. Sample Daily Schedule

This track will be held during Session 1 (July 10-18, travely day July 19) and Session 2 (July 18-July 28, travel day July 29). This schedule is subject to change, but here is an idea of what a day at the Summer Institute’s art track will be like.

2 8:00–9:00 Mahamudra Meditation with Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen
3 9:10–10:40 Thangka Painting Studio Class 1: Each day during this session, fundamental information about materials and techniques will be shared with the whole class.
4 11:00–12:30 Teachings by Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, alternating days: 1. sutra class: Entering the Way of the Great Vehicle: Dzogchen as the Culmination of the Mahayana) and 2. Guhyagarbha tantra course: Luminous Essence: The Tantra of the Secret Essence. Note that the tantra course is only for those who have taken it previously or who have completed ngondro.
