Students who are new to Nitartha and have previous Mahamudra experience 

If this will be your first Summer Institute and you have other Mahamudra experience, you may be eligible to attend
Mahamudra Vipashyana-I and the Luminous Essence course. An eligibility application will be required. See details below.

Mahamudra Shamatha
First-year students

You are welcome to attend the Mahamudra Shamatha course if you would like. Please note that prior to the 2020 Summer Institute, Mahamudra shamatha students are required to read and study The Progressive Stages on the Meditation of Emptiness by Khenpo Tsültrim Gyamtso Rinpoche (available at the Nalanda Store). The Open Door to Emptiness by Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche is a recommended reading. (No eligibility application required.)

Mahamudra Vipashyana-I
Second-year students

If you have not completed Nitartha’s Mahamudra Shamatha course (two sessions, includes pre-summer online) and you have received Mahamudra teachings from other Mahamudra teachers, or you have graduated from a 3-year retreat, you may be eligible to take Mahamudra Vipashyana-I. Application for eligibility will open soon (required).

It is highly recommended that all Mahamudra Vipashyana-I students complete 100 hours of Mahamudra shamatha practice before the 2020 Summer Institute.

Mahamudra Vipashyana-II
Third-year students

This course is open only to those who have completed the Summer Institute’s Mahamudra Vipashyana-I course (includes pre-summer online) and Nalandabodhi students who meet the corresponding prerequisites.

Guhyagarbha:
Luminous Essence: Tantra of the Secret Essence

New Guhyagarbha students: If you have not taken this course in prior years, you must have completed ngöndro (preliminary practices) in order to attend. Application for eligibility will open soon (required).

Mahamudra Silent Retreat

Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen
Session 3 (July 30-August 8)

Students who attend sessions 1 and/or 2 are welcome to stay for this silent retreat, which is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your practice and study. Students may also join this Mahamudra Retreat without having attended either of the two previous 9-day Mahamudra programs if they have previous experience with Mahamudra meditation, based on receiving practice instructions from a Mahamudra teacher. (No elegibility application required.)
