2019 Prerequisites

Certain prerequisites need to be met in order to take some of the advanced courses offered at Nitartha’s Summer Institute. Please consult the list below for details.

For these courses, students must first apply for eligibility. Once your eligibility application has been submitted, please allow up to 2 weeks for review and processing. If you fulfill the requirements, you will be sent registration information.

Prerequisites for Summer Meditation Programs

Level 1: Mahamudra Shamatha

While there are no specific prerequisites for this level, it is recommended that students have 
some background in the study and practice of the dharma.

Level 2: Mahamudra Vipashyana

Prior Nitartha Gomdra students must have attended the Nitartha Institute mahamudra shamatha course at some point and completed 100 hours of mahamudra shamatha practice

.

Nalandabodhi students who have not attended the Nitartha Institute mahamudra shamatha course are eligible to attend Level 2 Mahamudra Vipashyana if they have completed the Nalandabodhi mahamudra shamatha curriculum.

Those who have done extensive mahamudra shamatha practice in other contexts and graduates of three-year retreats may apply for eligibility for this course on an individual basis.

Prerequisites for Guhyagarbha course

Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche’s Teachings on the Tantra of the Secret Essence

Returning Nitartha Institute gomdra students enrolled in the 2019 Summer Institute Mahamudra Vipashyana course are eligible to attend the Guhyagarbha course as long as they have received an anuttara-yoga abhisheka or are willing to receive that abhisheka.

Nalandabodhi students who have not attended the Nitartha Institute gomdra are eligible to attend the Guhyagarbha course if they A) are Vajrasattva practioners or B) are mahamudra vipashyana practitioners who have received an anuttara-yoga abhisheka or are willing to receive that abhisheka.

General students must have 1) finished ngondro and 2) have received an anuttara-yoga abhisheka or be willing to receive that abhisheka and 3) have received nature of mind pointing out instructions.

* Any student who wishes to come only to Session 2 must have received an anuttara-yoga abhisheka; if not, you must attend Session 1.
** All students are encouraged recite 100-Syllable-Mantra as many times as you can prior to attending.

Mahamudra Practice Retreat

with Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen during Session 3 (July 25-August 2)

Students may join this Mahamudra Retreat without having attended either of the two previous 9-day mahamudra programs. However students wishing to enroll must have previous experience with mahamudra meditation, based on receiving practice instructions from a mahamudra teacher.
