This is the Year to Attend Nitartha’s Summer Institute!
Here Are Five Reasons Why
Summer Institute 2019 marks a milestone in the history of the Nitartha Institute. Here are five reasons why you should not miss this summer:
Reason 1: The Beginning of a New Unified Program
For the first time, study and meditation will be joined at the Summer Institute. The Summer Institute’s prior shedra (study) and gomdra (meditation) tracks will be combined into a single unified schedule – so you get the best of both in one program!
There will be two levels of Mahamudra meditation based on the Ocean of Definitive Meaning by the 9th Karmapa, along with a matching Buddhist studies class from the Nitartha curriculum.
The program will be offered in a three-year-cycle! This will allow students to progress through the Mahamudra teachings: beginning with Mahamudra Shamatha, followed by Mahamudra Vipashyana and ending with Mahamudra Enhancement, along with the corresponding Buddhist Studies classes.
Reason 2: Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche’s Presence and Teachings
Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche is recognized as one of the foremost scholars of his generation in the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. We are so fortunate that Rinpoche will teach two classes on alternating days:
- Bötrül’s masterful text, Distinguishing the Views and Philosophies, on Mipham Rinpoche’s presentation of the view of the Dzogchen vehicle by clarifying difficult points that include Madhyamaka tenets and
- Mipham’s commentary on the Guhyagarbha Tantra Luminous Essence which is the main tantra of the Mahayoga class and the primary Tantric text studied in the Nyingma tradition as a key to understanding empowerment, samaya, mantras, mandalas and other Vajrayana topics.
Reason 3: Contemplative Practices for a Holistic Experience
The Summer Institute is not only for the mind, but also includes your body, your eyes, your speech. Contemplative practices such as Lüjong (body-mind integration practice), Mudra Space Awareness, art, debate, and Tibetan language give students the opportunity to integrate various approaches and allow for an enriching experience on all levels.
Reason 4: Mahamdura Silent Retreat with Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen in Session 3
As a wonderful opportunity to deepen your meditation and Buddhist studies from Session 1 and 2, Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen will lead a Mahamudra Silent retreat during Session 3 – be fully immersed!
And if you can’t come to Session 1 or 2, you can still join this retreat as long as you have some Mahamudra experience.
Reason 5: A Shared Experience in a Beautiful Environment
People come from around the world to study and practice together at the Summer Institute: Nitartha Institute has faculty members from more than 6 countries and its students are from over 15 countries which creates a true international experience. You will be part of an inspiring community with many experienced practitioners and scholars who will offer support beyond the classrooms. There will be plenty of time to explore ideas, share meals and learn from each other. Make new friends and reunite with old friends at the Summer Institute! On your days off you can explore beautiful Oregon.
So don’t miss out on this amazing new program! Join us for an incredible summer from July 5 to August 3, full of meditation and studies with an inspiring community.
